Eco Babies

From the advent of "tv dinners" to disposable diapers, the convinces to the busy family has created a inconvenience to the environment we live in. Being in the baby related business we are really excited about the re-adoption of the cloth diaper and eco-low waste products that mothers are now buying that are better for their babies and the world in which they will grow up to live in. We are also seeing a reduction in plastics used to package baby food and toy items and more organic clothing materials, being used that bio degrade. This makes us feel good to be able to offer and strongly promote eco and earth friendly options.

Kitty litter was really blowing my trash output. I now use a natural Pine by product called Feline Pine. With three cats, I cut my trash output by 400%. Try it! It is completely flushable and it smells great- odor control is the best I have ever experienced in a life time of loving cats. It is available at pet and grocery stores.

Also - I live in Gardiner - we will offer the compost bins again next spring.

Think in the UK we are all made to recycle as much as we can. We now have bins for garden waste. A little blue tub to put are plastics in and a bag for cardboard. Most shops have a place where you can recycle batteries and our rubbish is collected weekly.

I see many companies who still toss their broken plastic pallets into dumpster thinking they are of no use. One pallet is equal to hundreds of milk jugs or water bottles. This plastic will never decompose and they take up a lot of space in landfills. A better solution is to contact a pallet company to recycle these items even if they're broken. These plastic pallets can be melted down to create other products.

Ian McAllister Organic gardener.

My city encourages recycling, but will cart away unlimited quantities. I live in Perth, Australia.

All my food scraps go into a compost bin with lots of worms in it. The worms lower the level of the contents as fast as I can add more.

Once a year or so I take out the bottom layers for my organic gardening. Most of the worms have abandoned the really good worm casts and are in the upper layers.

I just had an aha moment! When you said....

"As I pondered our trash last weekend, I thought, “Reduce, re-use, recycle.” There’s a reason the words are in that order. "

I never though too much about that phrase before. But you are exactly right. The order does matter.

Follow up from Matt Scease: I talked to the trash haulers at my curb today, after I saw them take a scale from the back of the truck and weigh my garbage barrel. We're down to 15lbs. Woo-hoo! We've potty-trained our daughter since my original post, which is certainly making a difference.

two things we have done to reduce our volume of trash - besides now being able to recycle all plastics! - include: using The World's Best Cat Litter and I stopped buying paper towels/napkins about two years ago. I don't know that we have made it down to 10lbs but we noticeably reduced our consumption of products that are easily thrown away.

Great info and a great read. Thank you, Mr. Scease.
