I was at a restaurant the other day and I said to my friends, "I wish that they just gave me two choices on the menu so that I didn't have so many options from which to choose." I get overwhelmed with some of the novellas that some restaurants use for menus these days. There just seem to be too many choices. And with all of the restaurants that have come to Augusta over the past several years, it sometimes takes a long time to even choose WHICH restaurant I want to go to...say nothing of deciding what to eat once I get there.
Choices sometimes can overwhelm all of us. But one choice I do like is getting to place my vote each year for NRCM's People's Choice Award. It is always a tough decision because there are so many people doing great work to protect Maine's environment.
This is NRCM's fourth year of the People's Choice Award. We have started receiving nominations for the award, and from the nominees, we will narrow the list down to a shorter list of finalists and then give everyone a chance to vote for their favorite.
If you know someone who is doing work for Maine's environment - whether it be cleaning up a local park, spearheading a recycling effort in your community, protecting your favorite lake or pond, or a number of other activities - I encourage you to visit our website and nominate that person (before August 7th) for this year's award.
Nominating your friends, family, neighbors, orcoworkers for the great work that they are doing is a nice way to say, "Thank you. Thank you for protecting Maine's special places and resources so that others can enjoy the beauty that Maine has to offer."
