There's an overwhelming amount of people in Maine, northern, southern, central, western, eastern, who don't want Plum Creek to profit off destroying out land and communities. Many people are afraid to speak out because they have family working for Plum Creek, get business from people associated with Plum Creek, or use land now owned by the company, the biggest landowning company in the country.

Also, many of the people who came to the Portland hearing to speak in favor of the plan and claim that people north of Portland want it, stand to profit politically and monetarily if it's approved. The Coalition to Preserve and Grow Northern Maine sent vanloads of people to the hearings, and that group is essentially started and funded by Plum Creek.

Having attended the LURC Intervenor Party hearings on behalf of Native Forest Network (another environmental group that is solidly against the plan), i'm not sure what way the commissioners will vote, but I hope people don't give up and think all is lost if LURC approves the plan, this is only the beginning.

And when people talk about the conservation easement, keep in mind that conservation plan allows sludge spreading, clear cuts, genetically engineered trees, road building, power generation facilities, mining, cell phone towers, and other unspecified development, with practically no Public oversight of how it's done (tho i'm sure there'll be subsidies for it from Public tax dollars.)

Mr. Beem makes some good points but I strongly disagree that this is a done deal. If anyone bothers to read the papers anymore, you'll see that there are so many letters to the editor and opinion pieces against this scheme that LURC, I don't think in good conscience could approve it. Not without huge public outcry from the majority of Mainers.

I am very distressed over Edgar Beem's assessment of the Plum Creek hearings. I have written to LURC and would like to attend the January 19th hearing but it soundslike the residents of Maine want this disaster to happen. Please advise.
